‘How to Get Away with Murder’ season 2: Are more character stories coming?
One of the things that we appreciate most about some showrunners is when they start to either look at feedback to their show and try to apply it, or just realize themselves that there are a few things that could be hammered out and made even better. For “How to Get Away with Murder” and Pete Nowalk, we’re starting to get a sense that he is ready to make what is a good show even better.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly recently about some of the things he would like to implement into the second half of this season (returning in August), he made it clear that one of the biggest ones in particular were stories that put more of the spotlight on the people:
“I’m learning so much more about the characters, and I’m learning more about how we can take chances with the show, that it doesn’t always necessarily have to be extremely plot driven. Basically what I want to do from this point onward is to really dive into the characters and have scenes that are slower, and scenes where the characters can just talk to each other and just hangout. In the beginning, I wanted to make sure that people were hooked on something. Now I feel like we can maybe take more risks and just allow the stories to breath and to tell people more about who these characters are.”
This all is music to our ears, since one of the biggest critiques that we have had with the show personally is that it relies too hard on the big “OMG” moment rather than giving us a chance to get to know the people. This show can still be dramatic while slowing down the pace. As a matter of fact, doing so could end up amping up the drama to new heights.
