‘The X-Files’ spoilers: First details revealed for ‘My Struggle’ premiere

X Files -The struggle is real when it comes to “The X-Files,” specifically as you wait until the show returns to Fox on January 24 following the NFC Championship Game. There are only a handful of stories that are being made, and with no idea as to whether or not more will follow them up, we just have to enjoy these episodes for what they are.

This of course is going to begin with “My Struggle,” which is set to air (mark your calendars) at around 7:00 p.m. Eastern time. This will probably fluctuate depending on football, and the synopsis is via SpoilerTV. There are of course some light spoilers ahead:

“Thirteen years after the original series run, the next mind-bending chapter of the thrilling series THE X-FILES has arrived. FOX MULDER (David Duchovny) and DANA SCULLY (Gillian Anderson) have been contacted by TAD O’MALLEY (guest star Joel McHale), a popular conspiracy theorist web-TV show host who believes he has uncovered a significant government conspiracy. With the assistance of FBI Asst. Dir. WALTER SKINNER (Mitch Pileggi), O’Malley seeks to enlist the help of former X-Files agents Mulder and Scully, who have since severed ties with the FBI. Through O’Malley they are introduced to SVETA (guest star Annett Mahendru), a possible alien abductee who shares shocking information with them that will challenge everything that Mulder has ever believed about the existence of aliens and the government’s role in covering them up.”

It’s nice to see in here ultimately a mixture of the old and new. We’ve got some familiar faces turning up, but then also some newcomers to the series. Given that this is only the second time we’ve seen McHale do drama after “Sons of Anarchy,” we are curious in seeing if this appearance allows him an opportunity to bring something new and exciting to the table.
