‘Arrow’ season 4 spoilers: First look at ‘Flash’ crossover with Hawkman, Hawkgirl

When the big crossover between “Arrow” and “The Flash” airs in early December, it is going to do more than just provide you with a story that spans two shows. In many ways, it will really span three. This is almost a backdoor pilot for “Legends of Tomorrow,” with the difference being that the show has already been picked up. It’s more in some ways of a series preview to what you can anticipate seeing on that show when it airs early next year.

The photo above was first posted by executive producer Marc Guggenheim across social media, and it shows many of our heroes joining forces: Speedy, the Green Arrow, Black Canary, The Flash, Diggle, Hawkman, and Hawkgirl. It’s a nice mix of people with powers, and people whose power mostly just comes out of being battle-tested time and time again.

The CW and the show’s producers are clearly banking heavily on “Legends of Tomorrow” being a show that people will want to watch, even though at the moment nothing is assured. The superhero genre is rather hit-or-miss at the moment. “Constantine” as a solo show failed to get enough viewers last year even though it proved to be very enjoyable by the end, and while “Supergirl” got off to a great start, it has since lost a lot of steam.

The one thing “Legends” does have going for it? A chance to start things off with Oliver Queen and Barry Allen around. What better way to introduce a franchise than by using some of the most-popular characters out there?
