‘Blue Bloods’ season 6, episode 7 review: The case of a car
There was certainly something unusual about Friday’s new episode of “Blue Bloods,” and for a variety of reasons. Maybe first and foremost it had to do with the primary order of business being trying to figure out what happened to a prestigious, stolen car.
To us, there is just not that much that is interesting about wrangling down a car unless you are a show like “Psych” or “Castle,” one that plays around with humor much more than this one. We like our stories on “Blue Bloods” dark and intense. Tonally, this show does not have the architecture to make something else work. Not every story for Danny can be a hit, and this one to us for the most part didn’t … even if the seen if the group actually getting the car in the end was fun. Sometimes, though, the destination does not always make the journey worthwhile.
Did the show make up for it elsewhere? We’d say both yes and no. The story for Erin and Frank was much more compelling, mostly because it put them in a position where their respective loyalties to work and family were put to the test. Was she willing to come to a compromise that would protect some of his officers, even if it meant a lighter stance than some in the D.A.’s office were willing to take? Eventually the two managed to make it work, but not after a few significant bumps in the road. This was tied somewhat into what Jamie and Eddie were doing on the street, as there was almost a battle of petty write-ups and bickering taking place.
So in the end this felt a little bit like an off, filler week for the show. It makes sense that they happen here or there, but this show is at its best when it is testing every relationship, or giving us a relevant story that makes us think about real-world problems. Other than Frank and Erin’s interactions, that wasn’t there this time. Grade: C+.
