‘Shark Tank’ video: Wink Frozen Desserts look to live up to the hype

Can something that is thought of as a guilty pleasure actually become something good for you? It’s an eternal question that many have tried to answer. Many have failed.

This is where Wink Frozen Desserts is coming into play on Friday night’s new episode of “Shark Tank.” They’ve come up with a product that is diary-free, sugar-free, vegan, and also only 100 calories for a whole pint. Yet, they still insist that there is significant flavor to be found in their product that will satisfy any ice-cream craving.

You can see the company’s whole first pitch below. They start off with a stumble, but eventually recover and deliver what we think is a pretty solid pitch. We really dig the packaging and the passion that goes along with what they are doing. Everyone wants to have a healthier alternative that still tastes nearly as good, but there are hurdles that they have to overcome. First is proving that the taste is there for the product, and then you have getting it into a place where it is convenient. We feel like unless it is some sort of specialty treat like a cake or a meat sampler, it’s hard to convince people to order food product that they could by at the grocery store online. Getting this into shore shelves will be integral to its success.

We’ll have to wait and see tonight if this company finds a Shark, but for now we’re cautiously optimistic … provided that the product is tasty and they have a plan for survival in one of the most competitive categories out there.
