‘American Horror Story: Hotel’ still has not stopped the bleeding in the ratings

AHSAre the ratings for “American Horror Story: Hotel” ever going to level off? We know that what the show is doing with some of its premieres is really impressive, but at the same time isn’t the goal here in order to ensure that people watch your show throughout the course of the series, and not just at the beginning? We like to think so.

The latest episode on Wednesday night drew a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is down a tenth from what it was the week before with “Devil’s Night.” When you remember that the premiere drew a 3.0, it means that you’ve basically lost a full 50% of your live demo audience in a month’s time. That’s not great.

The clear solace that FX probably has is that this is still the cream of their crop of shows at the moment, but this is probably going to be a difficult year for them to explain to investors either way. Think about it for a minute here: Last year, the show had both “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” which held onto its ratings a little better than this season, and “Sons of Anarchy.” The “Hotel” ratings have fallen hard, and “The Bastard Executioner,” while a powerful series, has not come close to matching the motorcycle drama.

We feel like the next few episodes are really going to be the ones that cements the show’s ratings legacy in a way that we haven’t seen yet, mostly because of the fact that the Halloween buzz is now over, and the show has to rely more on the strength of the story.
