‘The Flash’ season 2, episode 5 review: Dr. Light’s double-take; Vibe is born

Dr Light -

The Flash” last week ultimately spent a lot of time trying to set up “Legends of Tomorrow,” and there is a certain aspect of that we consider frustrating. Sure, this spin-off will probably be entertaining, but we were glad to see a show that was more concentrated on the main story of this show Tuesday.

Let’s start things off first and foremost be celebrating one of the biggest surprises that we’ve seen so far with the arrival of Earth-2: A character who is a meta-human in one world and not in the other. We’re talking here about Linda Park, who as it turns out happens to be Dr. Light in the alternate universe. She was a mere thief on that world, but here she had to up her game to another level in order to secure her safety. At first, she tried to escape the threat of Zoom by taking a ton of money and running. Then, she tried to kill the Earth-1 Linda in order to become her. Both were interesting ideas in their own way, but neither worked.

Eventually (after blinding Barry temporarily), she squared off with him in a fight that allowed the new Dr. Wells to teach him the concept of after-images, the same thing that Eobard used in order to trick everyone during the midseason finale last year.

Speaking of Dr. Wells, how awesome is Tom Cavanagh now once again? We like Harrison as a jerk with good intentions. He wants to destroy Zoom, and is encouraging Barry to lure him over to this world sooner rather than later. Despite a warning from Jay Garrick, he insisted that he was ready to take him on. Wells proved time and time again that he knows what is going on, and that included calling Cisco out on him having powers in order to help in the search of Dr. Light.

In terms of comedy, was the date between a blinded Barry and Patty one of the funniest things we’ve seen on the show? Probably. Barry may be able to conquer villains, but at the same time he cannot figure out what color her blouse is. Cisco Ramon also got a little lucky in love in this episode, thanks to eventually getting a chance to date Kendra Saunders! Hawkgirl is on the scene! This is a quick “Legends of Tomorrow” tease we can get behind.

The big surprise at the tail end of the episode probably wasn’t that big of a shock compared to others: Wells also may be a pawn in Zoom’s plan. Zoom has his daughter hostage for the time being, and that of course poses a problem. Episode Grade: A-.
