‘Quantico’ episode 6 review: A Shelby surprise and further flash-forward clues
At this point in “Quantico’s” run on ABC, we are starting to wish that the show operated a little more like “Arrow.” By that, we specifically mean that we wish it spent the majority of its time in the present / future (whatever you want to call the scene of the bombing), and a little less time at the academy. We know that does lend the show its title, but there is only so much that we can take away from this part of the story.
For example, how much did we really learn there tonight? All the coupling to us is rather boring, mostly because the only part of it that has bore some fruit at this point is the relationship between Caleb and Shelby, and that’s because of the revelation that she has been carrying on a secret relationship with his father, who happens to be the Deputy Director. Caleb learns about it in the most inopportune way, and is understandably sad.
As for some other romantic connections, Simon gets closer to Raina / Nimah, though for some time continued to be struggling with this like Austin did the Twin Twist during this past season of “Big Brother.” Simon eventually found himself locked up in a most unfortunate place at the end of the hour … at least at the academy, itself.
The less we focus on the story of the academy, the better since we find it personally to be somewhat riddled with holes, especially when you start to think more about the fact that these students miss class like nobody’s business and don’t seem all that preoccupied with studying. Yet, finding out little details here and there about New York and the bombing are where this show shines … especially when you start to realize that Raina and Nimah were in the building mere days before the bombing, and that many people supposedly on Alex’s side may be working just as much against her. Grade: B.
