‘The Leftovers’ season 2, episode 3 preview: Laurie and Tom surface!

So far, you could claim that the first two episodes of “The Leftovers” have almost been two separate stories. The first served as a worthy introduction to the Murphy family, a group of people who served as the perfect introduction to Jarden and Miracle National Park, a place that looks on the surface to be some sort of candy-coated paradise. however, through both John Murphy and later Kevin Garvey, we discovered that this is a problematic place stuffed full of paranoia, rules, fear, and danger.

As for where Laurie and Tom Garvey fit into all of this, we’ve wondered ever since the end of season 1 with her starting to break free from the Guilty Remnant. The sneak peek below is a conversation between mother and son, one where he makes it clear that he is about to go see Jill. However, the problem here is that Laurie is clearly having some problems with this idea.

First, she asks Tom if she can drive him, clearly because she’d love to see her daughter. Tom says that this is probably not a great idea. From here, the conversation then shifts to whether or not she can give him a note, and then to whether or not she can drive him again. The difference this time is that she promises to stay in the car and not cause any trouble. We’ll see how that works out.

Ultimately, this sneak peek has us all the more intrigued into how in the world we could see Laurie function in this world … and we also still wonder what time period this takes place in. Is this after the Garveys move to Miracle, or back during the early stages of episode 2? All will be revealed in due time.
