‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5 spoilers: A deeper look at ‘The Broken Kingdom’
If there is one simple thing that we would say in order to describe the fifth season of “Once Upon a Time” at the moment, it is this: Everyone wants Excalibur! The famed sword is a prized possession for many characters, and we’re seeing just how far they are willing to go in order to get it. Even someone like King Arthur, who we thought was going to be all virtuous and good, may be so desperate to “protect the kingdom” that he is going down a bad road in the process.
As you may know, “The Broken Kingdom” is the title for Sunday night’s new episode, and that name is meant in many ways to remind you of just how far from grace Arthur may be falling. In the past, Snow White is going to do her best to inform Charming that the King is not all he seems, but will he listen?
The synopsis below makes it clear that we are going to see flashbacks to Camelot during the time the main characters were there, and in addition to that, even further flashbacks to better explain the relationship between Guinevere and Lancelot:
“After receiving a cryptic warning from Lancelot about Arthur’s intentions, Mary Margaret realizes Arthur may be the heroes’ biggest threat, but when she is unable to convince David of the danger, she takes matters into her own hands. Meanwhile, Hook’s unwavering love for Emma provides a glimmer of hope in her struggle against the unrelenting voice of Rumplestiltskin. In a Camelot flashback, Guinevere senses that Arthur is losing his way, consumed by his obsession with making Excalibur whole, so she sets out with Lancelot on her own quest into the heart of darkness. In Storybrooke, Dark Emma unleashes a secret weapon in the next phase of her plan to find the brave soul she needs to draw Excalibur from the stone.”
