‘Quantico’: Priyanka Chopra series handed full season by ABC
“Blindspot” officially now has some company as the first series to earn a full season’s worth of episodes.
Today, ABC confirmed that they have ordered a back nine of the Priyanka Chopra conspiracy series “Quantico,” which brings the show to what is at the moment 19 episodes, with three more potentially coming later. This is still to be viewed as a full season. While the show is not necessarily a smash hit, its consistent ratings and positive reviews have made this something that the network sees a long life in. Also, we view Chopra as a potential big-name star, and someone like an Ellen Pompeo who can be attached to the hit for years.
One of the reasons we especially think that the show was granted this early pickup was how it managed to win its timeslot versus CBS (“CSI: Cyber”) despite not having much in the way of a lead-in. “Blood & Oil” completely sank thanks to the competition coming at it from “The Walking Dead.” It is showing more or less that it could survive in almost any environment, and against almost any show to go along with that. These are valuable things, and have us even more intrigued to see what the show could do moving forward.
New episodes of “Quantico” will continue to air throughout this fall; personally, we think that the show is going to do something fairly similar to “Once Upon a Time” in dividing up its episodes to air in bunches. You’ll get a rather hefty dose of them now, and then probably the back half in the spring. It’ll just be interesting to see what changes in the likely event that “Blood & Oil” does not make it past its initial run of 13.
