‘Once Upon a Time’ season 5, episode 4 spoilers: What is Rumpelstiltskin to do?

Out of everyone on “Once Upon a Time” at this point, we certainly feel as though Rumpelstiltskin has went through his fair share of ups and downs. He injured himself to avoid the Ogre Wars, found power courtesy of the Dark One, kept the secret of the curse in Storybrooke, and is now preparing for what is for him the next move: Trying to figure out how to stay alive now that he is a tool of Emma Swan, who is using him and his clean-slate heart to propel him down a completely different path.

You can rest assured that after Rumple’s disappearance, Belle is going to spend much of the next few episodes trying to find him. Also, executive producer Edward Kitsis makes it clear that Rumple will have a reaction of his own to being at Emma’s mercy. Here is what he had to say per TVLine:

“He has no magic, but he carries the wisdom of everything he’s gone through … At the same time, he still probably wants to run rather than fight.”

We would say that anyone, even Emma, should never discount a guy like Rumple. How could you? This is someone who has managed to navigate his way out some particularly hairy situations in the past, and as a result of that, we have to think that he is more than capable of continuing to do that in the future. During flashbacks to Camelot, we’re going to see the character mostly as the Dark One manifesting itself within Emma’s mind.
