‘Doctor Who’ season 9, episode 4 video: Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman on the great ghost story

Under the Lake -

At the end of this past episode of “Doctor Who” entitled “Under the Lake,” we had a chance to witness quite the dilemma for The Doctor and Clara. He decided to travel to before the flood (at least presumably) in order to uncover the course of the creature controlling the “ghosts” in the underwater base. However, what we saw during the closing seconds was The Doctor becoming a ghost in his own right.

Does this mean that the character is dead, and the mission to save the day is entirely at the feet of Clara? Not necessarily. As executive producer Steven Moffat explains in the video below, one of the ideas that the show is toying with here is the concept of “creating your own ghost,” which may be something The Doctor does in order to better execute this plan.

In this video both Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman also each turn up to tease some of the developments that are coming in terms of our fearsome new adversary, an unknown who is seemingly behind the creation of many of these creatures. It looks like this could be a formidable opponent, someone who tests our group intellectually in a way that they are not always tested. In other words, this should be fun!

We’ll be back tomorrow with a full review of “Before the Flood,” and episode that hopefully continues the quality trend we’re seeing so far in season 9. We found the batch of episodes last year to be rather inconsistent, but so far we’ve been captivated by most of what the show has thrown at us.
