‘Doctor Who’ season 9 spoilers: First details on Peter Capaldi – Jenna Coleman story in ‘The Girl Who Died’

Doctor Who -Doctor Who” season 9 will be wrapping up its ghost story with Saturday night’s new episode, but in looking beyond that for a moment, the next two-part episode is going to begin with The Doctor and Clara in a dangerous position, trapped and at the mercy of Vikings in the past. Think of this as the most bizarre episode of “Vikings” of all time.

“The Girl Who Died” is the title for this particular installment, and you can look below for the official synopsis:

“Captured by Vikings, the Doctor and Clara must help protect their village from Space Warriors from the future: the Mire. Outnumbered and outgunned, their fate seems inevitable. So why is the Doctor preoccupied with a single Viking girl?”

Obviously, Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman will probably be reminded in here of why their job is so crazy and unique. Every episode (or couple of episodes, in this case) they get a chance to attack new threats, and discover new and interesting parts of the universe. Everything that happens here will carry over into the next, and therefore there will be more of a chance to inhabit this world for a while longer than we’re used to.

Is this two-part structure really working? We know that there are some opinions out there that are clearly divided over it, and the ratings are lower than they’ve been in years. As we’ve said on CarterMatt in the past, though, we think that this is more of a function of modern viewing methods than anything more specific than that.
