‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 9, episode 3 review: Penny spills the beans

We all know that secrets can be hurtful to keep for too long, and going into Monday night’s new episode of “The Big Bang Theory,” one of the more intriguing storylines was going to be seeing how Penny managed to confront her father and the rest of the family with the news about her impromptu wedding.

After seeing Keith Carradine back as Wyatt, we learned soon after that he was fine with it … mostly because he was hiding the truth about what happened to Penny’s pet pig growing up. For those who were curious, we looked up how long pigs can live and found out that in theory, one could have been alive before Penny left for Los Angeles … though this would have been a pig with a heck of a healthy life. It was a little of a stretch we suppose, but not something that was bothersome.

We know that some out there probably want to meet more of Penny’s family, but we’re fine not seeing them. It’s one of those things where the joke would lose some of its zing if we were to actually see them in the flesh. We don’t know how you match the hype. We would, however, like to meet Amy’s mother or at least someone from her family, given that every other character has at least one representative.

This episode was one of the rare ones where we preferred watching Bernadette, Amy, and Penny exponentially over seeing the guys struggle to fix a flat tire during their Bachelor party in Mexico. This was just such a one-note joke that it could have been a YouTube video, and there could have been so much more humor that could have come out of this. Disappointing, and it really drags down what could have been a stellar half-hour. Grade: B-.
