‘Reign’ season 3 spoilers: Can Mary help Francis preserve his legacy?

While there is no new episode of “Reign” airing this week on The CW, the show is returning in just seven days’ time with all new episodes, and when it does, there should be one question firmly on your mind: How much danger is Francis going to be? We already know that he is not in good shape, and over the first few episodes, he is only going to continue to decline? We don’t think that the show plans on rewriting history, and that is not good news for this character.

In looking beyond the premiere to the October 23 episode entitled “Extreme Measures,” the good news is that Francis is still going to be alive, and at least in good enough shape to ensure that he can still carry out some of his duties. Based on the just-released synopsis for this episode, though, he may need a little bit of help from Mary:

“When King Antoine (guest star Ben Aldridge) unexpectedly returns to Court, Mary (Adelaide Kane) must help Francis (Toby Regbo) hide his weakening condition long enough to secure his family’s future. With the Throne in jeopardy and time running out, they must turn to an unlikely ally in need of redemption.”

While we are concerned about the fate of Francis on the show, this is not the only thing related to “Reign” that has us anxious going into the premiere. This marks the first season that the show has aired separate from a solid lead-in (“The Vampire Diaries”), and it is airing on a Friday night, no less. Are we going to see the ratings suffer to the point where it will be the end of the show’s reign on The CW? We say this not to be pessimistic, but mostly in an effort to encourage you to have both you and your friends watch live.
