‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 9, episode 2 review: Penny, Sheldon, and Leonard’s matters of the heart

Penny -Monday night’s new episode of “The Big Bang Theory” for the most part continued to start on a sad note, and it was because of the fact that Leonard and Penny were still apart, and it did not look like there was a way to fix their relationship moving into the future.

Luckily, the two did manage to figure things out mostly thanks to one key admission: Leonard has sabotaged his relationship in many ways, mostly out of fear that he is not good enough to actually be with her. That’s why he got drunk and made out with Mandy, and while we did see him talk with her at work in this episode, which produced a series of funny lines, Penny and her did not meet. Will they ever and do we really need to see a confrontation between Penny and Mandy? We don’t think so.

One other part of this story that was funny, beyond of course that hilarious dream sequence at the start that probably sent Sheldon / Penny ‘shippers into joyful hysterics, was seeing how Howard and Bernadette have known about the kiss this whole time and are trying to wash themselves free of guilt. Not so easy, is it?

While Raj, Howard, and Bernadette continue to be somewhat under-used in this season, Sheldon continues to be pretty terrible towards Amy, which of course makes this the toughest story to enjoy right now. We understand having to suspend belief from time to time, but how in the world would someone take this guy back given some of the horrendous things that he has done. The “Fun with Flags” segment? While funny, it was really pretty terrible and we’re not sure in real life someone would ever be able to look past this.

What we’re saying here is that Sheldon is really going to have to work to win Amy back, and we don’t think that it is going to be easy. Grade: B-.
