‘Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance’: One last twist coming in the premiere

Survivor -Tonight on CBS is the premiere of “Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance,” which is something that we have waited for on an insane level over the past several months. In some ways, we’ve been waiting for years given our affection for some of the people who are coming back (Stephen, Terry, Peih-Gee, and others).

We’ve heard over time about some of the twists that are coming Wednesday night, from a marooning similar in some ways to the very first season of the show to immunity idols being hidden in challenges. What is something we have not really touched on is how tirbal council is going to be somewhat different in the first episode. Specifically, it’s going to be coming right away after the immunity challenge. This is something that Jeff Probst shares some more detail on in an Entertainment Weekly interview:

“There’s one other thing that we’re doing in the first episode, which is we’re going to run the first challenge, Quest for Fire, at night — the same way we did 15 years ago. It will be at dusk so we’ll have the fires glowing … Then we’ll go straight to Tribal. So out of the gate they’re going to figure, ‘We’ll go back to camp, we’ll strategize, we’ll figure out who were going to vote out.’ And I’m going to say, ‘And losers, you have a date with me at Tribal Council and we’re going right now.’”

Could this lead to something super-fun at tribal? Possibly, since we’ve seen before what happens when you throw at players something that they don’t expect. Take, for example, when you had the Three Amigos striking big in “Survivor Caramoan” the night Phillip was voted out. At the same time, we’re not sure that this is a twist you really need given that with returning players, it seems like part of the fun could be watching them scramble.

Then again, if they really wanted to do Quest for Fire at night, this could just be a logistics thing just as much as it is a game twist. There probably wasn’t time to bring the losing tribe back to camp.

We’ll be back tonight with our full review of the premiere; let’s just say that we are expecting great things. You can head over here now to see our full predictions for the season!
