‘The X Factor’ UK review: 4th Power, Louisa Johnson, Josh Daniel, more rock Bootcamp
Saturday marked the end of the audition phase of “The X Factor” UK, and that means today, we are moving on to the next key phase in Bootcamp. We’re not far from getting to the Six Chair Challenge, which is going to be where contestants really start to learn just how tough this show can be. We’re going to provide some updates on this episode all night long, so refresh the page.
The structure this year is fairly simple: All the acts have been merged into different groups, and they all come up on stage together and perform snippets of a song. It’s basically Group Round from “American Idol,” which has grown on us over the years thanks to the drama it produces.
Group One – Great job by group Silver Tone and Katie Coleman, but the air time here was overtaken by the drunken mess who shall not be named. He wasn’t good in the audition, but he was both awful and a total terror here.
Group Two – Bupsi and the group Bekln were two of the memorable acts from the audition, and Jennifer Phillips is a serious talent. These are the people who we think we are meant to remember at the moment.
Montage – In here, we saw Chloe Paige, Anton Banaghan, Alien, and Seann Miley Moore advanced to the next phase, but none of them got a chance to shine.
Group Three – Lauren Murray advanced, but this was mostly the story of how she managed to get through despite not really having a great performance. She really has some of her past work to thank for still being in the competition.
Group Four – We don’t remember any of these people that well other than Mason Noise, with his ridiculous noise but surprisingly solid voice. Also, you have a guy who we like to refer to as Skinny Terry Crews.
Group Five – Monica Michael is there, plus a bunch of people you don’t know. She got through; that’s all you should care about.
Group Six – It’s the return of Joseph McCall and Simon Lynch, who continues to impress us as the sort of likable guy who can make it far in the live rounds.
Group Seven – It’s great news for audition standout Josh Daniel and Jamie Benkert, who was repeatedly called an Olly Murs lookalike. It was bad news for Andy the ice cream man.
Group Eight – Kiera Weathers also makes it through! Really, she’s the only standout here.
Last Group – At this point in the night, things get sluggish and it is admittedly becomes so much harder to really get engrossed in everything. Thankfully, the competition of 4th Power and Louisa Johnson was BEASTLY good.
