‘Big Brother 17’ live feed spoilers: Study time and bitter jury debates

VanessaBig Brother 17” is going to have the second part of its final Head of Household Competition on Friday presumably, and while we cannot say what it is just yet, we can say that Steve and Liz spent a lot of time last night studying.

For the record, it is pretty clear to us that Steve has the edge in this challenge, but anything could still happen. All it really takes is for him to get tripped up on something. We imagine that it will have a strong memory / puzzle component, but who knows that for certain? The winner will face off with Vanessa in the third part on Wednesday’s finale, which is typically a total crapshoot since you are predicting what people in the jury would say. We don’t think any of the people left did a great job this time getting to know the entire cast this season.

Speaking of the jury, we do want to spend a minute or two discussing what we feel is speculation that we could have in part a bitter jury … or at least a bitter Austin. Is Vanessa at fault for this at all? We’ve thought a lot about bitter juries as of late, mostly because we do feel that it is a two-way street. Of course, a player like a Vanessa, a Dan in season 14, or even a Boston Rob or Russell Hantz in “Survivor” can do nothing to help someone who is just a sore loser. However, they can still try to do something to make sure that nobody leaves the game bitter.

One of the things that we think Derrick did a really great job of last season was making sure he bonded with players right before they left, that way they ensured that they did not leave the game with any particularly bad feelings towards him. Jocasta seemed to be the only person at the end who felt somewhat slighted towards him seemingly, and that was because she felt like he used religion to bond with her before sending her out the door.

Ultimately, we think that it all comes down to this: Nobody wants to feel like someone made them look stupid on TV. That’s in part why Frank and Shane in season 14 were so upset about Dan, and probably why Austin is waging war right now to try to ensure that Vanessa does not win the game. He feels like she should have told him earlier than the very last second; he’s a guy with an ego, and she destroyed that. It’s jury management; sometimes a jury will be a little bitter regardless, but you have to do things to reduce that.

Here’s the good news for Vanessa: She has been so dominant most of the season that even with a bitter person or two, it’s going to be really hard for her to lose this game if she makes it there.
