‘Chicago Med’ spoilers: ‘The Wire’ alum becomes latest series regular

In the wake of Laurie Holden’s exit from “Chicago Med,” the cast for the series just continues to expand. This time around, we’re getting someone from a show known and regarded by many as one of the best to ever come on the air.

According to a new report from Deadline, Marlyne Barrett of “The Wire” fame has been cast as Maggie, a woman described as a “multi-tasking force of nature” who brings a wide array of skills to the table. She joins “Pretty Little Liars” alum Torrey DeVitto and Rachel DiPillo as new cast members who have been officially hired ever since “The Walking Dead” alum exited due to personal reasons. We should make it clear that some of these castings may have happened even had Holden stayed, but we’re reporting mostly based on timing.

“Chicago Med” also recently hired new showrunners, and with their combined experience on “The Sopranos,” we are starting to think more and more that all of the stars are starting to align for a show that at one point appeared to be in a little bit of danger. It did have to get things together reasonably quickly, if for no other reason than that it is airing later this fall, months earlier than it was originally expected to.

We imagine that this is only the beginning of the avalanche of news that is coming over the course of the next several weeks, so we hope to have even more on that. Stay tuned!
