‘Doctor Who’ season 9 spoilers: Circling in on ‘The Witch’s Familiar’
While the Labor Day Weekend is certainly leading to an absence of notable TV headlines in the United States, at least we do now come bearing some more news for all of those out there who enjoy “Doctor Who“: Further details regarding “The Witch’s Familiar,” the Steven Moffat-penned second episode of the new season airing on Saturday, September 26 on BBC One / BBC America.
On Monday, the network released its first official synopsis with details from the story, which certainly make it seem as though The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) is in a desperate place. The Daleks are back in full force, and something terribly tempting will be right in his grasp:
“Trapped and alone in a terrifying Dalek city, the Doctor is at the heart of an evil Empire; no sonic, no TARDIS, nobody to help. With his greatest temptation before him, can the Doctor resist? And will there be mercy?”
In some ways, this episode could be a continuation of the premiere “The Magician’s Apprentice,” mostly because of the fact that Moffat is so involved in both installments and some of the chatter that we have heard over time about many episodes this season being linked. Two-parters are a way for the show to try to shake things up, and introduce a dynamic to the series that typically is only there for an episode or two a season. Ultimately, it is just a way to continue to keep people guessing until the last second.
