Talking ‘Game of Thrones’ and Daario drama

LogoThere are obviously many mysteries within the world of A Song of Ice and Fire, and there are plenty, as it turns out, also within the world of “Game of Thrones.” What happened to the original Daario is just one of them.

The HBO series has been known to recast many characters over the years. There have been two different Tommens, a multitude of Mountains, and there was a new Myrcella this past season. However, replacing Ed Skrein with Michael Huisman as Daario remains to this day the most notable change, given that this was an adult character with multiple lines on the show, and the two actors do not even resemble each other much.

So what happened to cause the switch? To this day, few know the truth. Many of us assumed that Skrein getting cast in the new “Transporter” movie coming out Friday was a reason for the change, but as Skrein tells Entertainment Weekly, this was not actually the case:

“That’s what been reported in the press but it was a lot more political than that. My plan was to stay with Game of Thrones for the long haul. That was always my plan. I would have loved to … It was a wonderful experience, but politics led to us parting ways. And from there I just said, ‘Okay, look forward, be positive. Keep calm and carry on.’ That’s my mentality when things go well, so I stay grounded and not get to overwhelmed by the hype, and it’s my mentality when the plans change.”

Politics can ultimately mean a variety of different things, and it is unfair to really speculate about it much now other than saying this: He did not leave because of his schedule.

“Game of Thrones” season 6 should premiere in the spring, and we anticipate seeing more of Huisman as the new Daario.
