‘Big Brother 17’ review: James Huling, master of hiding things
We’re not going to pretend that the majority of Wednesday night’s “Big Brother” episode was interesting. We’re in the middle of what we personally feel to be the turning point of the entire season. If there is a big move that is made, then it’s more likely that we will have an exciting home stretch. If one is not made, then more than likely we are staring a little more squarely at a clean path for either Vanessa or the Austwins to win in the end.
We really want to hope that James winning Veto in this episode is a little more than a flash in the pan that will mean nothing later, mostly because both the competition and his ensuing victory were for the most part a heck of a lot of fun to watch. The premise was simply: Hide your Veto card somewhere in the house, and hope that no one else finds it. Maybe Vanessa gets some credit for finding more than anyone else, but that wasn’t the purpose here. James did the best job hiding his card, and is therefore now safe for the week.
Unfortunately, he was not able for now to convince Vanessa to nominate anyone other than Meg. Instead, she fired back at his intimidation with intimidation of her own, claiming that she now has more of a reason (and Vanessa loves reasons) to nominate a pawn to send Meg home. She did just that with Julia.
The other highlights from this episode were also mostly about James, whether it be his celebration to winning or hearing more about his daughter. The man is super-entertaining, and while he isn’t the best player in the history of the show strategically, he’s the sort of person you want to see win just because he could use it.
