After a one-week delay, tonight “Mr. Robot” will be officially signing off for its first season on USA, and what an incredible first season it has been. We feel like there were moments here and there throughout where we were confused, but the joy of this show is that if we were to go back and watch much of it after the fact, we imagine that we would pick up on so many little connections and smart things that we missed when we watched the first time.
We haven’t had a chance to do this just yet, but given that there is such a long wait between season 1 and season 2, there is going to be a great chance for a re-watch. New episodes of the series will more than likely premiere in either late June or July of 2016, and there’s no reason to shift the show to another timeslot. It gets solid ratings and attention where it is.
In terms of challenges, the biggest one may be how to continue creating surprises moving forward. Elliot has proven himself time and time again to be an unreliable narrator, and you do have to wonder if we will be able to believe him at all when the series returns. Also, what do you do with many of the other characters once the surprise factor is gone?
We feel like the challenge for show creator Sam Esmail is high in season 2, but he created something wonderful with season 1. Thanks to that, we have every bit of faith that he can find a way to do it again.
