2015 Emmys: Could Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Amy Schumer, or Amy Poehler win Comedy Actress?

The past few years have been big ones for Julia Louis-Dreyfus at the Emmy Awards, and we understand why. She is outstanding on “Veep,” and the Emmy’s affection for her goes all the way back to “Seinfeld.”

So it possible that any of the other nominees could beat her this year? It’s possible, if for no other reason than we have a last chance to honor someone in the Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series category for a beloved show, and there are a few darkhorse contenders who could cause an upset. This is at least a little more competitive than the Actor field, which to us feels like a slam-dunk for “Transparent” star Jeffrey Tambor. Take a look at our analysis below, and then vote for who you want to see win the comments.

The nominees

Edie Falco, “Nurse Jackie” (Showtime)

Lisa Kudrow, “The Comeback” (HBO)

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, “Veep” (HBO)

Amy Poehler, “Parks and Recreation” (NBC)

Amy Schumer, “Inside Amy Schumer” (Comedy Centrla)

Lily Tomlin, “Grace & Frankie” (Netflix)

Who should win – Poehler has still not won an Emmy for playing Leslie Knope, and that is one of the Emmys’ dire travesties that really does need to get corrected. It’s not just some pity vote, either; this is one that she has proved time and time again to deserve through her body of work, and to us the biggest bummer is just that she’s not guaranteed one this year, either. This is such a competitive category.

Who will win – It still would not shock us if we were to see Louis-Dreyfus take home the trophy this year for “Veep,” but right now our gut tells us to pick Schumer. She is currently one of the “it people” in Hollywood, and has the advantage of all of the media attention this summer for her movie. Kudrow is another solid darkhorse choice.
