‘Survivor Cambodia: Second Chance’ will feature (awesome?) new immunity idol twist
Have hidden immunity idols become broken on “Survivor“? We wouldn’t say that exactly, but there are problems. For one, everyone has an idea what they are going to look like, and also it’s become almost routine how you look for them and find them.
Given that we’re entering the “Second Chance” season featuring all returning players, it’s great to see a change the formula. There are two new twists to idols this season, at least per Jeff Probst’s comments to Entertainment Weekly. First and foremost, we’re going to see idols all have different appearances. Therefore, it will be easier to make fake idols, and in some cases you may have to convince others that you have one. Can’t you just show them the piece of paper that comes with the idol? We’re not huge on this twist, mostly because we feel like people are going to make fake idols anyway.
The second twist we’re really excited about is that the idols are going to be hidden in challenges! Here is what Probst has to say about this:
“So here’s how it will work: Day 1, they start building their shelter, you know people are going to start looking for an idol. They’re going to find it in a tree or under a trunk — whatever. But it will be a clue and the clue will say, ‘Good news, the idol is within reach. You just have to be daring enough to grab it.’ And we’re going to have a drawing [of the challenge]. You will know exactly where it is. There is no search. The only question is, can you do it in front of your tribe in the middle of a challenge and get away with it? I love that.”
This idea is great since it increases the risk so much, and could create more drama around them. There’s no more of the “wait until someone is asleep or someone is in an interview” strategy; you have to figure out if you can grab it without making it too obvious. Maybe this backfires since nobody wants to take the risk, but we’re happy to at least see them trying something else.
