ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8 spoilers: Is Nathan Fillion’s Rick going back to P.I. work?
Well, if you were looking for something to feel torn about when it comes to “Castle” season 8, we’ve got your very thing right now in the video below.
In this clip teasing upcoming episodes this fall, it makes it fairly clear that Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) is going back into full-time work as a private investigator rather than as someone working with the NYPD. There’s some old footage in here, and at first we wondered if this was some sort of a mistake. However, there is also a reminder that the new season is starting “this fall” at the end, and the previous Castle P.I. story was in the winter. This is a promo for the new season, which means that we may not see Rick as much working at the NYPD. The difference this time is that he doesn’t seem to be banned from working there.
So why bring Castle back to this place, given that not everyone loved the story the first time? We feel like the main difference here is that in addition to solving crimes, the main reason he was a part of the NYPD was to study Beckett (Stana Katic), his muse for many of his cases. With her now being promoted to Captain, what’s the point of sticking around the force when she’s not going to be in the field as much?
If we were you, we wouldn’t worry too much about this change. Since Castle’s not banned from the NYPD in the way that he was last time, we imagine that his new job title will not prohibit him at all from working with Beckett, Ryan, Esposito, and others throughout the season. It should feel like a similar show; in a way, this may be beneficial for Castle in that he will not be forced to spend most of his time with a singular partner.

Nothing has had me disheartened about season 8 like this promo. This makes it look like they are going to continue to play up the silly/inept Castle which I really dislike. In addition, I really liked Castle as a writer. It makes no sense that he would want to become a full-time PI. But, with the addition of Toks it looks like we will have a series of Castle and Toks “breaking the rules” and Beckett getting mad about it. I’ll tune in because I really do love this show but don’t know how long I’ll keep watching if PI Castle lasts all season.

I do not care if Castle spends most of the season with a singular character as long as it is Beckett. Do not screw up the Caskett relationship by splitting them up. Since they are the stars of the series I expect to see one or the other (alone or with others) 95% of the time and together at least 90% of the time.
With regard to Alexis I expect to see her in more romantic instances/situations but please make them more mature than what she had with the Pi fiasco.
With regard to Castle being a private investigator the only worthwhile part to them was when he was with Beckett. I do not see anything coming out of it. First, Beckett cannot discuss any case with him not can she use any of the resources of the 12th to provide him with any information on any case of his because it would be illegal (she cannot use taxpayer money to assist a private investigator working on a case unless he is acting as a consultant for the NYPD). We have already seen these issues raised in previous episodes. Do not waste my time
Bringing them up again.

To win the showrunners need to play their ace as many times as they can, as soon as they can. Fillion and Katic are the best romcom couple either on TV or in the movies and they do almost as well at drama. It wouldn’t hurt if they had better cases to work on – more twists, more locations, more show me rather than tell me what’s going on.

Maybe Castle should stick around the precinct and do some paperwork that he never helped get caught up on . All kidding aside maybe they should partner him with the boys when Beckett stays in the precinct . I know I for one won’t like any character who takes time away from Caskett being together ,I wasn’t to crazy about the pi episodes last season .Which didn’t go over to hot ratings wise so what makes the show runners think it’s going to go over any better in the new season especially with an unnecessary new security specialist now in the show .Can anyone see this show making it to the end of the season without getting canceled .THINK NOT!
