‘Supergirl’ spoilers: CBS boss not ruling out ‘The Flash,’ ‘Arrow’ crossovers … but not coming anytime soon

Supergirl -For fans of “Supergirl” and really the entire Greg Berlanti – DC Comics universe on TV, you can look at CBS’ comments at the TCA Summer Press Tour today as a sign of hope, provided of course that what you are really hoping for here is to someday see Kara Zor-El fighting crime alongside the Green Arrow and The Flash.

Previously, we got the sense from CBS that they really were not interested in crossing over at all with characters from other network shows, even though they are partial owners in The CW. Today, that tone changed slightly courtesy of network programming head Nina Tassler. We would not say that CBS is looking to stage a crossover event between the three shows anytime soon, but she acknowledged via TVLine that there is already a promotional partnership there, and they are keeping the option there for something in the future:

“You really have to be respectful and mindful of what each universe says you can and can’t do. Obviously, we’re working very closely with DC, and Greg Berlanti, is the poster child for this field. Right now, we’re not doing [and potential story crossover] …. But we’ll always stay open.”

To us, this feels almost like it could be the perfect season 2 story for “Supergirl” if it makes it that far. It gives the show a full year to establish its own identity on CBS, and then you have a chance to throw in some other characters to make it all the more entertaining.

Of course, we would say that if “Supergirl” gets the Super Bowl slot this year, that would make for an awesome crossover event … but we are probably putting our hopes a little bit too high there that CBS would use its biggest ratings platform, one that it only gets every three years, to help to promote characters not even on their network.

We’ll have more from “Supergirl” soon; for now, head over here to see who is playing a certain sister of Lois Lane! Also, sign up here to get some other TV news worth flying high over, courtesy of our official CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: CBS.)
