‘The X-Files’ spoilers: The status of Mulder and Scully revealed

For those of you who ‘ship Mulder and Scully on “The X-Files,” we imagine that the following bit of news may not be particularly easy to take.

While at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour today, there was a new promo for the series that aired, and as a part of it, there was a surprising bit of video evidence that Mulder and Scully are not together. This was confirmed after the fact by Entertainment Weekly. This news is probably pretty depressing to some, given that the two characters (played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson) were still together the last time that they onscreen together in any way. Of course, the fact that they have broken up at the start of the series is far from proof that they will remain that way at the end.

Even if they do not get back together, we do feel like there are ways to have a permanent and meaningful connection without being lovers, and given their romantic relationship was always somewhat under-the-radar to begin with, it will not likely create a massive change in their behavior while hunting the supernatural. It is the little moments that will likely change, along with some of the feelings and hopes that many fans have for what the show could contain in this capacity.

The new season of “The X-Files” is not premiering still for a very long time (think along the lines of January 2016), but have no fear: We are going to continue provide as many different updates as possible over at the link here.
