ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8 spoilers: More on big change for Stana Katic’s Beckett
We know that change can sometimes be hard if you are a viewer of a TV show like “Castle,” but we’re starting to feel at the moment like this one in particular is easy to get used to.
As you may have heard recently, it is now official that Beckett (Stana Katic) is going to be the new Captain of the precinct when season 8 premieres in September. This is a slight change from the way in which things have been over the years, but it is still something that we are very much okay with thanks largely to the fact that it is not like her changing her position is going to make some huge imprint on the way in which this show chooses to do things the rest of the way. She and Castle (Nathan Fillion) are still going to be together, but they will have some other issues to work out.
In setting up what Beckett as Captain will look like for the eighth season, executive producer Terence Paul Winter said the following to TV Guide:
“She’s still going to be very boots-on-the-ground, but now she has to work with Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Ryan (Seamus Dever) much differently than in the past, and that’s going to cause more conflict … It’s much different when your wife is the captain, the boss, versus when your wife is the detective.”
While we may not see Castle and Beckett working directly together as often, there are still many methods of communication available, and we get the idea of Beckett telling Castle more of what to do as something that could be hilarious. We’re pretty excited to see how this shakes out.
Hopefully, we will have some further insight into this story moving forward, but obviously there will be some other changes with Toks Olangundoye and Sunkrish Bala also around in significant roles with the NYPD.

I think that having them get married in the first place was the wrong way to go, but
I’ll watch no matter what.

I’m glad that Beckett is going to be out at crime scenes and not stuck behind a desk. The three options she had at the end of Series 7 did not look good for an action Beckett with I am sure everyone loves seeing. Nor did it look too encouraging to tempt Stana back, I for one am looking forward to seing Series 8, (Eventually. One of the penalties of being in the UK).

Can’t criticise until I see how well the dynamic works. It does open the possibility of more in depth discussions at home. Still would like to see a serialized version instead of the case of the week, which seems to have run it’s course.
Waiting for the return of the mystery writers poker games, would be fun with Kate as the new addition.

I just want good story arcs that build upon the characters. Last year, it started out really well, but I felt that they dropped the ball in regards to Castle’s mythology. I do not want them to break up Beckett and Castle. I would like to see them grow stronger based on the issues they face. I hope there are more intense and life changing episodes for Castle and Beckett. I love the episodes that are intense because it shows the true colors of the characters. I am looking forward to Season 8 Castle. I cannot wait!!! Linda

I agree we need to find out more of Castle two month disappearance, and the saving of thousands of people. I’m glad we are not getting a Wallie Irons in the 12th. The last thing this great love story needs is a split up of Castle and Beckett. I already have a great dislike of the role Toks Olagundoye will play. The one question no one wants to answer is, are we going to be blessed with a baby Castle ? Thanks George

Writers can move the stories in ways that take Beckett and Castle off the street and into the deep background of cases where the street cops do not go. Fewer crime scenes, more smokey rooms.

I feel compelled to watch the first 2 episodes because they are supposed to set the tempo, the drama, the Caskett relationship and introduce the new cast members all for the rest of season 8. They will also provide an opportunity for the new show runners to show their stuff. If I like what I see I will continue to watch the series otherwise I will not.

Agree totally, but if the first two don’t do well they will have six other episodes complete and in the can which follow the same premise. They won’t be able to turn the ship until after the first of the year which may be too late. So if you have any insight, now might be the time to mention it.
