‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ promo: Now with Mitt Romney

There are quite a few things that we did not expect to appear in a promo for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” but somewhere at the top of the list has to be a cameo from Mitt Romney!

We have to think that this is actually a smart move for Stephen to have the former Republican Presidential candidate in his latest promo. Going into this gig, one of the biggest critiques that we’ve heard of the hire is that Colbert’s political leanings, as seen on Comedy Central, could end up alienating CBS’ conservative base. Do we think that this is really going to happen? Not exactly, and for a variety of different reasons. First things first, we don’t imagine that Stephen is going to be altogether political on this show. He is not playing the same character he did on “The Colbert Report,” and he took this gig in part to do something different.

Also, CBS is going to want a show where at least almost any guest can feel at least somewhat welcome … but what happens from there is anyone’s guess.

We are very excited to see what is going to come when this show starts on September 8. Those who have seen Colbert away from Comedy Central know that he is a very smart writer and an interesting guy, and we are very curious to see more of what he brings to the table here. We imagine that we’ll also have more promos to share before the premiere.
