‘Sherlock’ season 4 spoilers: When will Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman start filming?
While you are getting a new “Sherlock” special later this year, this does not mean that there will be the fourth season coming right after. BBC and PBS are really keeping you waiting when it comes to new episodes set in the present (the special is set during Victorian England), and there are many question marks still out there about what this fourth season will be or when it will premiere.
If nothing else, we can at least offer up some information right now courtesy of the PBS panel at TCA this weekend: Season 4 is going to be filming in the spring with stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman back at it. Odds are with this sort of time window in mind, season 4 is going to most-likely premiere at some point in either late 2016 or early 2017 in Britain, and then a little bit after that in America. We could actually see PBS airing it around the same window as season 3, though they may be able to bump up the release date a little since “Downton Abbey” is ending early next year.
The important thing to remember here is that there is quite a bit that is still the same. There will once again be three episodes, and for the most part they will revolve around our two leading men. Almost everything else remains a mystery, and Steven Moffat clearly wants it as such.
We imagine that now that this panel is out of the way, it could be several weeks or even a month or two before the BBC finally confirms the Christmas Special. You better believe that we’re going to have further updates on that every step of the way.
