‘Homeland’ season 5 spoilers: Showrunner on ‘current’ story, new German setting
Thursday has turned out to be quite the banner day for all fans of Showtime’s “Homeland.” There was a great deal of uncertainty at one point regarding if the show could ever be as great as it once was after a disappointing third season, but for the most part season 4 turned it around. We know that there were many out there who were not a fan at all of the finale, but we were among the group that felt like it was a quiet, emotional way to end a loud season, and we do sometimes appreciate it when the show decides to switch things up a little bit.
So to get the Emmy nomination today for the season must feel good for the show, and we like it since it also means a chance to get a further tease on what is coming up in season 5. Just in case you were wondering what one of the show’s executive producers had to say on the subject of what is next and how they can top themselves, just look at Alex Gansa’s comments per The Hollywood Reporter on Carrie’s journey in Germany:
“This story is current … With all of the stuff that’s going on just south of Berlin in the Middle East and to the east in Russia and Ukraine, it’s fascinating. Carrie is out of the intelligence business when the season starts, she finds herself in Berlin. It’s a center for dissidence. That’s where hacktivists go because German privacy laws are so strict. It’s hard to have surveillance on people there.”
So there you have it: At least some sort of explanation as to why Carrie is there. More will likely come before the premiere this fall.
