2015 Emmys: Tatiana Maslany, Emilia Clarke, Gaby Hoffman, John Oliver among surprises
Sure, there are plenty of snubs out there every given year for the Emmys, but what about some of the surprises? One way or another, there are typically a nominee or two who makes it onto the ballot despite it seeming somewhat like a longshot, and that is what we are here to discuss today. Don’t worry: We’ve also got a snubs article as a part of our Emmy coverage today, so you don’t have to worry about that being left out.
Tatiana Maslany – The long nightmare is over! Finally, the “Orphan Black” star gets the love that she deserves in the lead category after two straight years of waiting.
Gaby Hoffman, “Transparent” – We knew that her series and Jeffrey Tambor would get love, but she was somewhat of a welcome surprise.
The Supporting Actress in a Comedy race in general – Eight nominees? Clearly, there were a ton of ties this year or something…
Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke, “Game of Thrones” – We didn’t think we would see both get nominations, and were a little more confident about Lena’s odds this year.
“Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” – Oliver is now going up against his former mentor John Stewart.
Comedy Central Love – in between Amy Schumer and Keegan Michael-Key, the network has really realized that it exists beyond just Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.
Jeff Daniels – We like “The Newsroom,” but we honestly forgot it was even on during this voting window.
“Orange Is the New Black” – Category change be defied! It was somewhat a shock that Uzo Aduba scored a nomination and not Taylor Schilling.
