‘The Bachelorette’ review: Ben Higgins, Nick Viall, Shawn Booth compete in many ways for Kaitlyn Bristowe

Kaitlyn -The Bachelorette” has definitely crafted quite a complicated story this season. There have been arguments, tears, more arguments, and ultimately more tears. We also have two guys in Shawn Booth and Nick Viall who probably hate each other more than we have seen for any other reality TV contestants we have seen in an extremely long time.

There were still remnants of the drama that transpired throughout tonight’s new episode, in particular when Kaitlyn Bristowe took Shawn out for his overnight date and confronted him over the verbal warfare that he shared with Nick at the hotel. This was one of the most heated arguments that we’ve had on this show, but we understand that Shawn is coming mostly from a place of extreme jealousy and frustration that the dude is still around. We don’t really think that there are any real winners in the edit when it comes to these two.

Rose Ceremony – Kaitlyn “followed her heart,” and in this instance that meant sending Ben Higgins home. We feel for the guy, though it’s not much of a surprise. What was weird was hearing how much Ben said he’d “miss” her. Really? You’re going to miss someone who chose Nick and Shawn, who hate each other with a passion, over him? Well, Ben still has a good shot of being the Bachelor, so there’s that.

“Hometown” dates – Really, the families were flown out to Utah, which was incredibly dull and very different from the flair we usually got. Of course, Nick’s family was freaking out after having to do this all over again. Bella once again proved to be the best part of Nick’s date, but other than Nick telling his mom about making out with Kaitlyn (awkward!), the rest was pretty dull.

As for Shawn’s date, remember that drama about him “having something to tell her”? Well, it was that he loved her. That’s the end of it. Not exactly the most exciting end to an episode that we’ve ever had in the history of the show. Clearly Shawn has the momentum here, and yes, it would make for crazy television to see Nick be heartbroken again at the end of this.

In the end, a pretty dull episode that sets up the final two. There were fewer shouting matches, fewer scandals, and not even really many tears. Onto next week? Thankfully, yes. Grade: C+.
