‘Wayward Pines’: What are the latest season 2 prospects?
The first season of “Wayward Pines” has definitely been a little bit of an interesting study for Fox. It’s more of a traditional limited series on a network that still airs plenty of the familiar 22-episode shows, and it is also airing at a time when it can be really hard to find an audience.
However, this show has done a really good job of finding a way to maintain an audience, and not only that, but it has become a force to be reckoned with in DVR viewing. So far, it is by our estimation the most successful new scripted series of the summer. Does that mean that it will actually get renewed? Not necessarily, but it has a shot.
It may be disappointing in some ways to look back at Thursday night’s ratings, where the show posted a series-low 1.0 in the 18-49 demographic (the same number that it got for its premiere in May). However, at the same time there are some things to remember here:
1. This was before a holiday weekend.
2. It still beat the majority of the other new competition on the night.
3. As we said, it has been performing extremely well in DVR figures.
If we had to answer right now as to whether or not this series will be returning for another season, we would say with at least some confidence that it will be. However, we figure that some of the final decision-making could come down to whether or not they have another story in mind that is worth doing. Focus on that before figuring out if you want to make more episodes for the heck of it.
