Donald Trump goes after NBC, Univision for ‘abandoning’ Miss USA contestants
Clearly, you had to know that Donald Trump was not done making a giant fuss when it comes to the fate of the Miss USA Pageant. Since when was it his style to accept defeat and sit back? The answer to that, at least we feel for now, is “never.” Therefore, you better prepare for some more of what we like to call politicking / attacking television networks that decide to bail on the contestants of the pageant who worked hard to get to this point.
Speaking in a new interview on “The O’Reilly Factor” Tuesday, Trump stated that he is going to find a way to ensure that the women in the competition get their moment in the spotlight on July 12 … though how that is going to happen still remains relatively unclear:
“I’ll tell you what’s really sad, on behalf of NBC and Univision: We have 51 of the most lovely women you’ve ever seen right now in Louisiana, and they have been abandoned by NBC and Univision … I’m going to work it out so that the show goes on, but they have been totally abandoned.”
Trump also said that he believes there is a “bias” against conservatives at NBC, but we’re not going to touch that from a political perspective. What we know is that NBC made their decision on the pageant after sitting on it over the weekend; ultimately, they felt like the comments that he made about Mexican immigrants were too much for them to move forward in good faith with the pageant.
We feel like we have said this a few times before, but we do genuinely feel for some of the contestants that they put in a ton of work for this pageant, thinking that it was at least going to air. However, you also cannot make the decision to put something on the air out of pity. If you did, networks would never cancel anything.
Ultimately, this is a solution where a whole lot of people are going to be left out; NBC either chose to alienate Mexican viewers, or alienate beauty pageant contestants / fans. Clearly, they picked their side.
