Petition starts for NBC to cancel ‘Celebrity Apprentice,’ not broadcast Miss USA Pageant over Donald Trump comments

NBC -We know that there are a variety of stories out there regarding petitions, and there are even more petitions out there than stories. What makes a petition worthy of attention? On the surface, little. Everyone has an opinion, and these are just a further expression of such.

However, a petition starts to get newsworthy when you are able to get tens of thousands of people to collectively share that opinion, and then attempt with the best of their ability to get others to do the same. That is the subject of a change.org petition to convince NBC to cancel “The Celebrity Apprentice” and bail on the 2015 Miss USA Pageant over some of Donald Trump’s comments about Mexican immigrants. These are the same comments that caused Univision to already drop their own support of the event.

As of this writing, the petition has almost 200,000 signatures, and that is nothing to sneeze at. As for whether or not this will work to get NBC to change their mind, that remains to be seen. The network has already been promoting the pageant extensively, and there may also be a contractual issue if they were to pull it. Trump has already threatened a lawsuit against the Spanish-language network over the decision that they made.

“The Apprentice,” meanwhile, has technically been renewed already for another season, and getting rid of it may be difficult in its own right. What we feel is more likely at this particular moment is that the network finds a way to just bring in someone different to host the show in Trump’s place. We’ll just have to see if that happens.
