‘Gotham’ season 2 spoilers: First synopsis teases Mr. Freeze backstory

Sooner or later, you knew that things were going to get a bit chilly in “Gotham,” right? Well, let’s just hope that they are chilly in an entertaining way that the show brings in Mr. Freeze than whatever they did in the “Batman & Robin” movie.

Today, Fox unveiled what is the first official synopsis for the upcoming second season, and within this they included a variety of teases regarding some of the show’s most notable villains. For the most part, we expected the mentions of the Riddler and the Joker, given what we knew already. Freeze surprises us a little. Take a look below:

“Season 2 explores the origin stories of some of the most ambitious and depraved supervillains, including The Riddler, The Joker and Mr. Freeze, while Bruce Wayne uncovers more secrets from his father’s past.”

This is hardly the most revealing synopsis ever, but we do feel very much like the show understands itself and what it wants to be now so much more than it did in the first season, where it suffered a little from try-too-hard syndrome. You obviously want to please your fans, since their ratings and support are one of the major reasons that you are on the air in the first place. However, at the same exact time you don’t want to try so hard to do this that you end up simultaneously compromising some of your own ideas. We hope the show sticks to its guns and focuses more on the story than trying to just jam in these people as awkwardly as possible.

One reason why we’re especially hopeful? Based on what we heard yesterday courtesy of some casting news, they are going to give plenty of airtime to a character more specific to the world rather than one that is already well-known.
