‘The X-Files’ revival: Gillian Anderson on stepping back into Scully’s shoes

X Files -What a year 2015 has turned out to be for nostalgia: A new “Jurassic Park” movie is shattering box office records, we’re getting a new “X-Files,” “Full House,” and “Heroes,” and at E3 this weekend Sony announced they are remaking “Final Fantasy 7.” Have we suddenly jumped into a time machine?

We feel like this is all a symptom of a certain audience who grew up in the early nineties growing older, and wanting to see some of their favorites back on the air. For the sake of this article, let’s talk Scully and Mulder. These two have done movies, seasons of TV, and yet at the same time it feels like they could do so much more. We have six episodes coming early next year, but by no means is this guaranteed to be the last of the show.

Just in case you are wondering what Anderson is saying about playing this part again, just take a look at what she had to say in a new interview per TVLine when asked to describe the start of the experience in a few words:

“‘Slow.’ ‘Intense.’ And it’s setting groundwork, so it’s got a particular role to play. It does exactly what it needs to do. What’s a single word for fulfilling that requirement? ‘Functional’? ‘Appropriate’? ‘Functional’ works … Slow, intense and functional!”

While we’d love to sit here and start to talk about maybe getting longer seasons of the show again someday, why don’t we take this one season at a time? Let’s see when the show returns next year if it can still be anywhere close to the great show we remember.
