‘Wayward Pines’ spoilers: What will Ethan do with ‘the truth’?
Have you started to wrap your head around the crazy “Wayward Pines” twist just yet? To us, it’s still a tricky thing to grasp, and we give the writers / producers a whole lot of credit for that. We spent the first four episodes or so thinking that this is just going to be another creepy-small-town series, thanks to us not really having a whole lot of knowledge about the source material.
Then, we find out during the episode fittingly titled “The Truth” that we are actually more than 2,000 years in the future in this series, and through a form of hibernation, Ethan and many others have been brought here to more or less save the human race. No pressure, right? It’s a great twist in that we have instant stakes, and not just because of the mission. Ethan also has to figure out who he tells, and how he decides to pass along what he knows. When it comes to that, executive producer Chad Hodge teases the following to Entertainment Weekly after making it clear that next week’s installment will tell us more about how exactly Wayward Pines is operated:
“The ensuing episodes after that are all about what he’s going to do with this truth and how that intersects with what his son knows and what his wife is about to find out … It’s really about the nature of lies and truth, how much truth is too dangerous and what human beings can handle. The last four episodes are Ethan’s decision of what to do with the knowledge that he has.”
Given that we’re continuing to keep ourselves reasonably spoiler-free here from the source material, we still have no idea how all of this will wrap up. That’s somewhat terrifying as a show viewer, but also simultaneously exciting.
