‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 finale spoilers: See new side of Lena Headey’s Cersei in ‘Mother’s Mercy’ photo

Today, HBO released some of their first images from the “Game of Thrones” season 5 finale “Mother’s Mercy,” and we are going to be spending at least a certain percentage of this link talking about a few of the images that have been released.

Let’s begin with the shot attached here of Cersei (Lena Headey), which looks so desperate and completely different than we have ever seen her before. Throughout this season, we have seen the downfall of the character like never before. She is almost the Icarus of King’s Landing; she flew too close to the sun in her ambition to retain her power, and because she never really thought about the implications of bringing in someone like the High Sparrow, she never really had anything to worry about … until now.

Throughout the finale, Cersei’s actions will come home to roost, and she will have to figure out if there is any way at all for her to move forward past what transpired leading up to her arrest. Fans of the George R.R. Martin book series have at least some idea of what is going to be coming up, as it is one of the more famous scenes that the Cersei characters has. We’re not going to spoil too much else if you have no clue what we are talking about.

By the end of the finale, we are going to be for the most part in uncharted waters, and not just for this character. Part of the excitement now is that unless George R.R. Martin actually manages to release A Storm of Swords before next year, the show will be ahead of the books for the first time.
