‘The Last Ship’ season 2 video: Cast, producers tease what lies ahead

It’s been a very long wait for the return of “The Last Ship” to TNT. The series originally premiered last summer, drew some tremendous ratings for the network, but has since been on a lengthy hiatus.

Now, the wait is almost at an end. The series returns with new episodes come Sunday, June 21, and the latest video below provides a strong inside look at some of the work that goes into the show. The cast and crew (including co-creator Steven Kane) all sit down to discuss some key themes and stories that are going to be coming up. One of the biggest things worth looking forward to are new characters, and to go along with that, seeing how they react with some of the people who you’ve already come to know. Of course, there will also be plenty of explosions and classic Michael Bay intensity … but there’s something more here, as well!

To us, one of the most interesting things is hearing many of the cast members discuss some of why they all personally enjoy this show so much, and a lot of it comes down to the close relationships that they have formed on set. This is a place where people genuinely care about one another, and that probably makes it a little more exciting of a place to work.

While we’ve said it before, it is worth stating again: The challenge for the show’s second season will be meeting expectations. You’ve got these great characters and also a solid premise, but what do you do with it next? How much bigger do you make it? We’ll learn some answers soon enough.
