‘Hannibal’ season 3 spoilers: Mads Mikkelsen on Hannibal – Bedelia’s history

Hannibal -The premiere of “Hannibal” season 3 is just a matter of a day and a half away, and that alone is a cause of excitement. For the most part, what we know about the premiere is a series of assorted teases here and there. For example, we know that the story will pick up with Hannibal Lecter on the run with Bedelia du Maurier in Europe, and he will specifically spend at least a little time in France during the premiere. There is not even a guarantee at the moment that Hugh Dancy will be in the first episode. If it happens, consider it a pleasant surprise.

What will be interesting to uncover throughout the premiere is more of the origin of the Hannibal – Bedelia relationship. How long have they known each other, and what is the true nature of their relationship? These are subjects that Mads Mikkelsen himself is happy to tackle, as he teases the following to TV Guide when describing what lies ahead in terms of the story:

“We touch on what their past was and how Bedelia got herself in this situation … Let’s put it this way: It’s not a healthy relationship. It’s distant but also intimate in a way. It’s a brother-sister relationship that is not healthy.”

This season will track Hannibal across multiple different continents, and in terms of the specific inspiration, the word that we’d use here is “hodgepodge.” A variety of different books could be sourced, especially when you get to the second half of the season that is inspired mostly by “Red Dragon.”
