‘The Flash’ season 2 spoilers: Will Rick Cosnett, Tom Cavanagh return?

Tonight’s episode of “The Flash” was a tale of two Thawnes, and really just about the most shocking way that you could possibly wrap up the entire season. It is hard to really fathom everything that happened, or just where the story could go from here.

What we do seemingly know for the time being, though, is that Eddie Thawne may no longer be with us. In a very surprising fashion, we saw the character opt to die in order to stop his distant relative Eobard from continuing to inflict chaos on Central City. This is a guy who many thought would become a villain, and now he has died a hero. In speaking about the decision per Deadline, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg passed along the following message:

“It was there to be done if we decided to go in that direction … Despite how much we adore the character of Eddie and truly adore Rick [Cosnett] as a professional and a friend, this was what was best for Eddie and all the other characters, what was best for the show.”

One other important thing is that Tom Cavanagh is still going to continue to be a regular on the show as Harrison Wells, but whatever that means for now is unclear. Maybe it is possible that Barry can track down through time the Harrison who was actually a good man, and bring that man to the future? All we know for now is that he is going to continue to be a big part of the show in some way.
