‘The Bachelorette’ review: Ryan McDill’s drunken antics take over Britt Nilsson – Kaitlyn Bristowe premiere

Ryan -Tonight’s season premiere of “The Bachelorette” is all sorts of insane, and it will be controversial … but not entirely because of the premise. We don’t like the whole “two female Bachelorettes” twist, but it has been done before on “The Bachelor” and clearly both Kaitlyn Bristowe and Britt Nilsson signed up to take part when they didn’t have to.

Our biggest problem of the night was Ryan McDill showing up and being able to complete stumble drunkenly without any regard for those around him. We’ll have some more on this soon, but it’s crazy what the guy is getting away with. Namely, how was he not immediately escorted out of the mansion by security when he smacked Kaitlyn on the backside? We know that you wanted to create that whole moment with Chris Harrison, but there was still some lead-up to it actually happened where he went off and talked to Ben Zorn for a minute or two before being told to meet Chris. Interestingly, he was somewhat more aware of himself the moment that he was in Harrison’s presence, and Chris laid the major smackdown on him by telling him he was obviously not there for love.

Obviously, that was hugely problematic since it felt like the show put the interest of entertainment above the interest of a woman who was there trying to actually take a step forward in her journey. Otherwise, this was a silly, entertaining episode with great shenanigans. We had dentist Chris showing up in a giant cupcake, people like Ian and Brady taking specific interest in Kaitlyn and Britt, and we had plenty of shade thrown at Kaitlyn by Britt.

What we know for the time being is this: Britt and Kaitlyn are polar opposites. Britt takes this all so seriously to the point where it does not even seem like she is having any fun with it. Meanwhile, Kaitlyn has too much fun. There really is not any middle ground with the two. Kaitlyn is very accessible because she approaches everything with humor (which is easy for guys to understand); however, she could be interpreted as not taking the process as seriously as someone like Britt.

Overall, we’re not sure which one of the women is really coming off better. We feel like Kaitlyn will be a better Bachelorette in terms of comedy on the show, but Britt is a more traditional choice that would be an ambassador of the franchise. Grade: C+.
