The CW 2015-16 Fall Schedule: ‘The Originals’ season 3 to Thursdays; ‘Reign’ to Fridays

The latest -We did not exactly expect much in the way of sweeping changes to The CW’s primetime schedule, and that is exactly what we got when it was revealed at the network’s upfront presentation on Thursday morning. There is only one new show on the schedule, and two are going to be on the move to new timeslots for creative and commercial reasons.

Are some going to be shocked / disappointed by “Reign” on Fridays? Probably, but we saw this one coming. Its ratings behind “The Vampire Diaries” have sunk lower than any other show on the Monday-Thursday schedule, and one of the only reasons it was never in danger of cancellation is because it comes from CBS TV, and The CW likes to have a variety of shows from that studio and also Warner Bros. TV. The latter currently has many of their larger hits. Moving “The Originals” to Thursdays is a little risky in that it makes vampire fans block out two hours a week, but since “NCIS” does it, it shouldn’t be that terribly hard to do.

Mondays

8:00 – “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (new series)

9:00 – “Jane the Virgin”

Tuesdays

8:00 – “The Flash”

9:00 – “iZombie”

Wednesdays

8:00 – “Arrow”

9:00 – “Supernatural”

Thursdays

8:00 – “The Vampire Diaries”

9:00 – “The Originals”

Fridays

8:00 – “Reign”

9:00 – “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”

As a whole, we’d argue that The CW had a pretty good year in between “The Flash” rising and “Jane the Virgin” winning a Golden Globe. With that, we wonder if they will ever consider going back to programming on Sunday nights again. It’s been years since they have, but their schedule is starting to get a little crammed.
