The ‘Supergirl’ trailer is finally here!

We have waited for a long time to see the first trailer for “Supergirl” on CBS; as a matter of fact, we spent most of this afternoon sitting around and waiting patiently to actually see it debut online. Luckily, for the most part we feel like it will be worth the wait despite a few issues.

Let’s start first and foremost with the fashion perspective. For a good 10% of the trailer, we started to think that Felicity Smoak had been granted superpowers! There is a Felicity vibe here, especially in that when you pull back Melissa Benoist’s hair and give her glasses, she does look slightly similar to Emily Bett Rickards’ character on “Arrow.” Also, there is a minute or two in here that feels more like a romantic comedy, which is not something that we really needed from this show right away.

Now, let’s focus for a moment on the positives. We do like that Kara Zor-El (Benoist) is happy and willing to showcase her powers, and is not just a moody hero or someone scared about what her being out there will do to the people she loves. It’s a different sort of confidence than what we have on some other similar shows right now. Also, we do like some of the humor in here, including the back-and-forth on outfit choices and the heavy reliance on the more science-fiction portions of the Superman mythology.

Also, we at least have an idea now of why Jimmy Olsen is in this world rather than just over at the Daily Planet. Hooray for explanations!
