Tonight may have marked the end of the road for season 2 of “Agents of SHIELD,” but it is far from the end of the series. ABC already renewed both the Marvel franchise show and “Agent Carter,” and you can expect to at least see the former show on the air again in the fall.
Before we say too much else here, let us just spend a minute or two thinking about the format of the show. The network confirmed at the upfront presentation that it will continue to air Tuesday nights, and it will have the same split-season format that season 2 had. Also, be prepared for more Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter on this show! Even though the spin-off is not happening, it does not seem as though either one of the characters are going anywhere. The finale had to obviously leave them alive in case they had a new series to visit.
For Chloe Bennet’s character of Skye, season 3 could be an even harder transition than for most others. After all, this is a woman who has to try to deal with the fact that her father killed her mother, who in turn was out for her.
While there are some stories that will need to be picked up (what is happening in the ocean, Coulson’s hand situation), the biggest question that needs to be answered come September is pretty simple: What in the world is happening with Simmons? There’s your epic cliffhanger.
